PROCESS: Discovering Commonality Across Design
“If you can design one thing, you can design everything.” – Massimo Vignelli
Inspired by Vignelli’s popular assertion, three exceptional, Philadelphia-based designers in diverse fields were brought together in October 2023 to discuss their methods at the Center for Architecture + Design.
Industrial designer Nick Missel, architect Ximena Valle of Fifteen Architecture + Design and streetwear designer Rob Adams of Cream By Eighty explored the commonalities and divergencies of the creative process before an inquisitive audience.
“There are profound connections among design disciplines that are surprising and exciting. How designers create a product is as compelling as the product itself,” said Rahmi Halaby of Linden Ave Studio, organizer of the event.
Moderated by Halaby and co-presented by DesignPhiladelphia, Linden Ave Studio and COLLAB, the panel and reception was held as part of the DesignPhiladelphia celebration.
Held annually since 2004, DesignPhiladelphia is the largest city-wide festival of its kind in the nation. During the 12-day celebration in October, more than 200,000 people explore the world of design at 200 exhibitions, lectures, workshops and demonstrations held throughout the City.
